THE RUSTY TRUTH

About The Auto Glass Industry

Most people believe when they have a windshield replaced that if their window was installed straight, the moldings look good, the window is clean and that it does not leak, that they had a great windshield installation experience. What they don't realize is the damage that may be hidden underneath their moldings.

While it may be every Auto Glass shops policy to apply primer over the scratches (to prevent them from rusting), the fact is about 70% of the windshields we replace that have previously been replaced by another Auto Glass company, the installer did not prime over their scratches. Their reasons may vary from trying to install the window as quickly as possible to just not caring about your vehicle as it may be 3 to 5 years before you see any of the effects of their poor installation.

Why is it important to keep your windshield from rusting?

Besides the obvious, rust can devalue your vehicle.

Rust can grow underneath the seal which can cause the windshield to begin leaking.  Windshields in many cases serve as part of the structural integrity of the vehicle and the adhesives we use are designed to keep the windshield in place in the event of an accident. Rust can cause weak points where the windshield can become dislodged and become a safety concern.
